BALTIMORE (AP) ? I'll Have Another waited a little longer to catch Bodemeister in the stretch this time, and now that he's done it twice in a row it's time for a Triple Crown try in the Belmont Stakes in three weeks.
With a breathtaking closing rush, the smooth-striding colt won the Preakness Stakes by a neck at Pimlico Race Course on a sunny Saturday, a dramatic finish that topped his win two weeks ago in the Kentucky Derby.
The race unfolded the same way as the Derby, with the speedy Bodemeister moving to the lead under Mike Smith, with I'll Have Another hanging back in fourth in the 11-horse field. The early fractions were slower than the Derby, but when it came time for Bodemeister to hang on, I'll Have Another found another gear under young jockey Mario Gutierrez and ran down trainer Bob Baffert's horse in the shadow of the wire.
"We're thinking Triple Crown, baby," an elated trainer Doug O'Neill said. "He's a special horse. We'll see how he comes out of it, and if he comes out of it in good shape, we're heading to New York, baby."
It's been 34 years since Affirmed swept the Derby, Preakness and Belmont and became the 11th and most recent Triple Crown champion. Since then, 11 horses have won the first two legs only to come up short in the Belmont. The most recent try came in 2008, when Big Brown was pulled up around the turn for home and did not finish. Before that, Smarty Jones was run down in the final 70 yards by Birdstone in the 2005 Belmont.
If margins are an indication, perhaps I'll Have Another has a Triple Crown in his future. Affirmed won the Derby by the identical 1? lengths over Alydar, and then beat his rival by the same neck margin in the Preakness.
"I didn't feel confident we were going to get there until 10 yards from the wire," owner J. Paul Reddam said.
I'll Have Another, sent off as the second choice at 3-1 over 8-5 favorite Bodemeister, covered the 1 3/16 miles in 1:55.94. The winner returned $8.40, $3.80 and $2.80. Bodemeister returned $3.20 and $2.80, and Creative Cause paid $3.60 to show.

The 5 Things You Should Know Before Buying Boat Insurance
In the event you personal a boat, you undoubtedly need watercraft coverage.
Too usually, people do not realize that they need protection for his or her boats. Some don't even realize that boat protection is available. Many know it's accessible, and they give it some thought ? they only determine that this type of protection is not one thing that they need. Typically, they are flawed! You do need boat insurance, and you have to know what you might be on the lookout for once you begin shopping for the coverage.
Listed here are 5 things you need to know earlier than buying boat insurance.
1. Many states now require you to carry watercraft liability coverage.
This protection will should shield you in opposition to any harm that you simply do to different people or other folks's property with your boat. The insurance coverage also needs to cover you for losses attributable to theft, vandalism, storms, hearth, capsizing, stranding, sinking, explosion, and collision. Name your insurance agent to seek out out what your state requires, and what their boat insurance insurance policies cover.
2. There's elective protection that you need to strongly consider.
Wreckage Elimination protection is one type of coverage that you should consider. In most places, removing of sunken or wrecked vessels is obligatory, and it's the duty of the proprietor to pay for this elimination ? which can be fairly expensive. This optionally available coverage will cover these costs. You also needs to strongly think about coverage that can pay for repairs and mechanical failure, as well as protection that will pay towing charges ought to you might want to be towed back to shore.
3. Not all insurance companies will cover all operators of the boat that you're insuring.
It's vitally vital that you just ask about this. Discover out who is covered when working the boat. Some insurance coverage firms will only cover the boat proprietor as the operator for the speed that was quoted. The speed could go as much as cowl operators aside from the precise owner. Make it possible for the insurance agent clearly defines who is roofed to operate the boat!
4. Most insurance coverage corporations that cover watercrafts provide reductions to people who have taken boat security courses.
Nonetheless, each insurance coverage firm will only provide the discount for particular courses. Find out which course your insurance coverage firm will honor, and be sure to take and cross the course! This may prevent fairly a bit on your premiums ? and you need the protection course anyway! Find out what different reductions you could be eligible for as well. Most insurance firms won't tell you concerning the reductions except you particularly ask about them.
Pay less than $20/month for Accident Insurance through insurance agency, wellnessplanusa.com, that will help pay for your deductible when you have an accident and are responsible for high out of pocket costs.
5. You will sometimes get the best charge from the insurance coverage firm that insures your automobiles and your private home ? however not in all cases.
When you find yourself shopping for insurance, call your current insurance coverage company first ? however then verify with different insurance firms to see what kind of charge you may get. While getting quotes on-line could be very handy, you must avoid really buying your coverage online. Call and discuss to an agent personally instead, or have them call you. Do not forget that insurance corporations are in competitors with one another, and they're going to work with you to get your business. Let every one know in regards to the lowest charge that you have been quoted, and ask them if they can do better!
Earlier than shopping for insurance, take into consideration the investment that you have made in your boat.
Boats will not be cheap! Repairing and changing boats shouldn't be cheap either. Just remember to get the coverage that it's essential to defend you against all losses involving your boat!

Artificial Grass Installation at Bangkok Home – Thai Garden Design …
This garden in Central Bangkok was the new home of an expat family living and working in the city. The owners had finished making changes to the house interior, and were scratching their heads over the garden... The couples two young children were have trouble enjoying the garden, which was made up of large dull pavers, not attractive to walk, sit or run on.
After visiting the site and discussing the various options available, the owner opted to have an artificial grass lawn installed across the whole space of over 100 sqm.
The team laid down a sand and gravel course as the foundation for the new artificial lawn, as well as constructing a new hardwood deck in one corner, so the parents could sit, relax and watch their children playing in the garden.
Border plants were also advised on, and installed around the edges of the new lawn. The planting scheme included some of the owners favourite types, including the frangipani tree, where an empty pit used to be.
The selection of new plants took into account the low light levels, which has meant many of the previous plants had not grown successfully. Good maintenance practices were advised on and offered as part of the service.
Artificial grass was definitely the best option in this instance, as the orientation and existing trees meant that there was little light getting through into the space, making it very difficult to grow natural grass successfully. The new grass lawn is just as good, requires less maintenance, and is perfectly nice to sit on, picnic on, and play sports on.
Many gardens in Bangkok and other places in Thailand have problems with growing and maintaining good natural grass. If you are interested in having a nice lawn for the family, then consider an artificial lawn, they are a good, if sometimes unfamiliar, option.
Email ben@thaigardendesign.com for more information, or samples of artificial grass. If you're having trouble with your Thai garden grass, this could be the best option!

Dead Pets Found Floating In Buckeye Lake | WBNS-10TV …
Pet owners near Buckeye Lake were on high alert Wednesday after a number of animals were found dead in the lake.
Suzy Spencer said that her cat, Yo, went missing a few weeks ago. A few days later, a neighbor found Yo dead in the water, 10TV?s Glenn McEntyre reported.
?I don?t think in my lifetime I would ever find another cat like that,? Spencer said.
The most troubling discovery came when her cat was fished out of the lake.
?Once it was in the bag for a little while, there was a big pool of blood that probably (came) off the fur,? neighbor Dave Kunz said. ?Somebody had hit it, kicked it or whatever. It was obvious. Somebody?s being real cruel.?
Kunz said that he withheld information about the cat?s wounds from his neighbor in hopes to spare her feelings until he heard about other animals missing and found drowned.
Another neighbor?s cat was found missing, and a small dog was found drowned, McEntyre reported.
?You don?t want to think that somebody would harm an animal like that,? pet owner Kellie Green said.
Green?s cat, Sassy, was found drowned in the lake, McEntyre reported.
On May 6, a small dog was found trapped in a spillway. Buckeye Lake police helped rescue the dog.
Officer Chad Nunemaker said that too many similar incidents were too close together to be coincidental.
?We?ve received more than one report of this happening, so odds of that are pretty slim,? Nunemaker said.
Spencer said that in her 17 years on the lake, she has not seen or heard of incidents like this.
?Occasionally, you?ll see something dead in the lake, but it?s an occasional thing,? Spencer said. ?It?s once a summer, maybe, but not five animals in a matter of two or three weeks.?
Spencer said that she wanted to believe that Yo fell in and drowned.
?I don?t think that?s what happened,? Spencer said.

Study shows first case of chronic traumatic encephalopathy in blast-exposed military personnel
Study shows first case of chronic traumatic encephalopathy in blast-exposed military personnel
Wednesday, May 16, 2012
(Boston) ? Investigators from Boston University (BU) and the Veterans Affairs Boston Healthcare System have shown evidence of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) in brain tissue from blast-exposed military service personnel. Laboratory experiments conducted by the investigators demonstrated that exposure to a single blast equivalent to a typical improvised explosive device (IED) results in CTE and long-term brain impairments that accompany the disease. They also found that the blast wind, not the shock wave, from the IED blast leads to traumatic brain injury (TBI) and long-term consequences, including CTE.
This research, which represents the first case series of postmortem brains from U.S. military personnel who were exposed to a blast and/or a concussive injury, will be published online May 16 by Science Translational Medicine.
Lee Goldstein, MD, PhD, associate professor at Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) and Boston University College of Engineering, and Ann McKee, MD, professor at BUSM and director of the Neuropathology Service for VA New England Healthcare System, led this international collaborative study and are the senior co-authors.
CTE, which can only be diagnosed postmortem, is a progressive neurodegenerative brain disorder that has been reported in athletes with multiple concussions or subconcussive injuries. In early stages, CTE is characterized by the presence of abnormal deposits of a protein called tau in the form of neurofibrillary tangles, glial tangles and neuropil threads throughout the brain. These tau lesions eventually lead to brain cell death. CTE has clinical features in common with TBI, including psychiatric symptoms and long-term cognitive disability involving memory and learning deficits. TBI can impact military personnel exposed to an explosive blast and may affect approximately 20 percent of the 2.3 million servicemen and women deployed since 2001.
In this study, investigators performed comprehensive neuropathological analyses on brain tissue from four military service personnel with known blast exposure and/or concussive injury. They compared these results with brain tissue samples from three young amateur American football players and a professional wrestler, all of whom had a history of repetitive concussive injury, and four samples from comparably-aged normal controls with no history of blast exposure, concussive injury or neurological disease.
The investigators found that CTE neuropathology in the brains of blast-exposed military veterans was similar to that found in young athletes with repetitive concussion and consistent with what has previously been observed in brain samples from other athletes with a history of repetitive concussive injury.
"Our results showed that the neuropathology from blast exposure, concussive injury, or both were virtually indistinguishable from those with a history of repeat concussive injury," said McKee, who is the director of the Brain Banks for BU's Alzheimer's Disease Center and the Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy, which are based at the Bedford VA Medical Center. McKee said that these findings indicate that TBI caused by different factors may trigger similar disease pathways in the brain.
"The neuropsychiatric symptoms of CTE that have previously been associated with athletes diagnosed with CTE could also be attributed to military personnel who were exposed to blast," said Goldstein, who also is affiliated with the BU Photonics Center and served as the study's lead author.
To examine the impact of a single blast exposure, the investigators collaborated with leading experts in blast physics, experimental pathology and neurophysiology at Boston University, VA Boston Healthcare System, White River Junction VA Medical Center, New York Medical College, Fraunhofer Center for Manufacturing Innovation, University of Massachusetts Lowell, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Massachusetts General Hospital and the University of Oxford. The team's experimental data showed that one blast comparable to that experienced by military service personnel in the field resulted in both neuropathological and behavioral evidence of CTE. Surprisingly, the long-term impairments in brain function, including impaired learning and memory, were observed just two weeks after exposure to a single blast.
The blast wind from an IED can reach a velocity of up to 330 miles per hour, which is greater than the largest wind gust ever recorded on earth. "The force of the blast wind causes the head to move so forcefully that it can result in damage to the brain," said Goldstein.
Based on the results, the investigators went a step further and explored how they could prevent the brain injury. They demonstrated that immobilizing the head during a blast exposure prevented the learning and memory deficits associated with CTE that occurred when the head was not immobilized.
"Our study provides compelling evidence that blast TBI and CTE are structural brain disorders that can emerge as a result of brain injury on the battlefield or playing field," added Goldstein. "Now that we have identified the mechanism responsible for CTE, we can work on developing ways to prevent it so that we can protect athletes and our military service personnel."
The study results provide a pathway for the development of novel diagnostic strategies for blast-related brain trauma, as well as to treat and rehabilitate those who have been exposed to blast and/or a concussive injury.

Wiz Khalifa, Nas, Bone Thugs Lead Rock The Bells Lineup
Lupe Fiasco tweets that he's not on this year's bill, despite an announcement to the contrary.

Hip-hop's premier music festival is back. On Tuesday, Guerilla Union held a press conference to reveal its lineup of hip-hop all-stars for Rock the Bells 2012. Freestyler extraordinaire Supernatural delivered the list of performers one-by-one with an impromptu rap, rattling off names like Wiz Khalifa, Kid Cudi, Nas, J. Cole and Mac Miller, as well as veteran acts like Missy Elliott, Timbaland and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony.
Lupe Fiasco's name also appears on the festival's flyer, but on Wednesday morning (May 16), the Chi-Town lyricist tweeted that despite what was printed, he would not be in attendance this year. "Not doing Rock The Bellz...thats a typo fam and friends...," he wrote.
For the first time in nine years, Rock the Bells will expand its daylong festival to two days. The first show will take place August 18 at the NOS Events Center in San Bernardino, California. Last year's three-stage setup forced fans to choose between their favorite acts, who would often perform simultaneously. "We had quite a few complaints about Mobb Deep fans having to choose between Mobb Deep and Nas," Guerilla Union boss Chang Weisberg said as an example. "We tried to deliver three stages, but it didn't work out. So the correction? Two stages, two days, one event."
RTB will hit the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California, on August 25 and 26 and then the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey, on September 1 and 2. Coincidentally, the East Coast show falls on the very same weekend as Jay-Z's recently announced Made in America multi-genre music festival in Philadelphia. Hov promises close to 30 eclectic acts in the fields of rock, hip-hop, R&B, Latin and dance music. The Made in America lineup hasn't been announced yet, but already, the RTB bill is ripe with diverse rap talent. 2 Chainz, Tyga, Kendrick Lamar, Slick Rick, E-40, Too Short and A$AP Rocky will all be in attendance.
The announcement event wrapped up with performances by DJ Quik and Bone Thugs, who took the stage and rocked a few of their many classics, leaving fans ready for the main course this summer. Fans should check RockTheBells.net for venue and ticket information.

Aspen now officially 'defies ordinary' | Aspen Daily News Online
Aspen may ?defy ordinary? but it is no longer ?epic,? at least in the eyes of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
The Aspen Chamber Resort Association on May 1 was issued the trademark ?Defy Ordinary,? a branding campaign rolled out last year.
ACRA applied for the trademark in September and registered the brand under the section of ?goods and services? to promote ?tourism in and around the Aspen, Colorado geographic area,? according to the USPTO, the patent and trademark office in Alexandria, Va.
The Aspen Skiing Co. has trademarked dozens of brands and slogans. A review of the list of trademarks that SkiCo has or did have on the USPTO website show some of the more colorful ones used over the years.
The USPTO trademarked ?Epic? under the goods-and-services class ?providing facilities for skiing and snowboarding? on May 29, 2008, but the SkiCo allowed it to expire. The USPTO registered it as abandoned on May 27, 2011.
Others dead on the USPTO website: ?The Mountain Town,? ?Come Live It,? ?Just Plain Fun,? ?The Difference is Night and Day,? ?Go Fast Take Chances? and ?Crazy T?Rain.? Those trademarks and others were used, or were going to be used, to sell goods and services, and to promote SkiCo?s four mountains.
A more recent filing made by the SkiCo was on April 30 to trademark ?Snowmass,? despite the fact that the ski area has been in operation since 1964.
Scott S. Havlick, a Denver-based attorney specializing in trademark law who represents SkiCo in that area, said the U.S. system allows for use of the word to trump registration by the USPTO. Because ?Snowmass? isn?t trademarked doesn?t mean it gives another entity permission to use it, based on the length of time Snowmass has been called that in common terms.
?The cool thing about the U.S. system is that as soon as you use it you have common law to have the rights,? he said.
Owning a trademark provides for another layer of protection, which is why ACRA sought to register ?defy ordinary.?
?We want to protect it and not have another resort use it,? said Julia Theisen, ACRA?s vice president of sales and marketing. ?We are investing a fair amount to that branding. ... We?re sticking with it for years to come.?
The brand will appear in ACRA?s marketing online, in print and other collateral, pitching the resort as something extraordinary.
Jill Teehan, an Aspen lawyer who specializes in trademark law, said a search on the USPTO website shows that ?defy ordinary? also is trademarked by a brewery in Washington. But because that use falls under ?goods and services? and not branding, it can be used by both entities.
Teehan said it?s important to register a trademark for a catchy brand or slogan, and to put it into use.
?If you sit on it, you can lose it,? she said.
Particularly with small businesses in Aspen, as well as with artists, authors and other entrepreneurs, trademarking intellectual property is paramount since the resort and its name has global reach on the Internet.
?In a global economy, even if you are a small business in Aspen, your brand could grow,? Teehan said. ?You?ve built value in your brand, and if it?s not trademarked, it could be lost.?
Once goods and services, or a brand, are trademarked, some companies ? typically large ones ? often hire outside agencies or set up search engines to monitor improper usage in media and other forums.
Such is the case with Steamboat Springs Ski Resort, which regularly sends cease-and-desist letters through its attorney to any entity that uses the term ?champagne powder.? It?s trademarked and was first used in commerce in 1968 to promote and brand Steamboat, according to the USPTO website.
And just last week, the Aspen Daily News received a letter from a Temecula, Calif.-based attorney asking the newspaper to stop using REVERSE 911? on behalf of is client, Cassidian Communications Inc. The company provides 911 call-handling solutions for emergency call centers, among other services for the public sector.
The letter refers to two recent opinion columns that used the term ?reverse 911? in the context of wildfire danger. The software allows the government?s communication center to call land lines to notify residents of imminent danger.
Tiffany Baughman, legal counsel for Cassidian, informed the Daily News that REVERSE 911? is trademarked and that the newspaper?s reference to it is ?generic misuse.?
?We object to any use of the REVERSE 911? trademark or marks confusingly similar other than in reference to the REVERSE 911? system of Cassidian Communications,? Baughman wrote in her April 30 letter. ?It is our position that any use of the REVERSE 911? system has the potential to confuse consumers and dilute the distinctiveness of the proprietary mark.?
Legal observers, however, said ?reverse 911? is such a common term that Cassidian would have difficulty in court protecting it as its own.
?Despite the fact that they have an incontestable registration, I think the [term] has been generic for too long of a time,? Havlick said.
Havlick and Teehan both said that on its face, it appears that ?reverse 911? is a descriptive term used by officials to inform the public about a process or system that could protect people in the case of an emergency.
?You could argue this trademark is too descriptive to qualify for trademark protection,? Teehan said, adding that trademark protection is meant for branding and marketing goods and services ? not a process.
Cassidian first filed for the trademark brand in 1993 and began using it in commerce in 1994. The USPTO granted the trademark registration in 1995 under ?goods and services? for an automated phone calling system comprised of computer hardware and software, and automated computer databases in the fields of demographics, geography, public safety, telephone numbers and addresses on magnetic media.
Pitkin County uses Cassidian for some of its communications center operations but not for the ?reverse 911? system. Mark Gamrut, Pitkin County communications director, recently used the term when addressing county commissioners and Aspen City Council about wildfire danger.
?I try to use an alternative ... it is challenging in our industry,? he said. ?What matters is getting the message out to the public.
